Globe virtual
Globe virtual adalah perangkat lunak model tiga dimensi (3D) untuk representasi dari Bumi atau dunia lain. Globe virtual memberi pengguna kemampuan untuk bergerak bebas di lingkungan virtual dengan mengubah sudut pandang dan posisi. Dibandingkan dengan globe konvensional, globe virtual memiliki kemampuan tambahan untuk mewakili banyak pandangan berbeda di permukaan bumi.[1] Pandangan ini dapat berupa fitur geografis, fitur buatan manusia seperti jalan dan bangunan, atau representasi abstrak dari jumlah demografis seperti populasi.
Pada tanggal 20 November 1997, Microsoft merilis sebuah globe virtual luring dalam bentuk Encarta Virtual Globe 98, diikuti oleh Cosmi dengan 3D World Atlas pada tahun 1999. Globe virtual daring pertama yang dipublikasikan secara luas adalah NASA World Wind (dirilis pada pertengahan-2004) dan Google Earth (pertengahan-2005).
