Kali Puja atau Shyama Puja adalah festival untuk memuja dewi Kali dalam agama Hindu. Festival ini dirayakan pada hari pertama bulan Ashwin.[1] Festival ini bertepatan dengan Diwali di India. Sementara banyak orang India memuja dewi Lakshmi, orang Bengali, Odiyas, dan Assam justru memuja dewi Kali [1]
Sejarah
Festival Kali Puja bukanlah ritual kuno. Festival ini baru dikenal setelah abad ke-18, tetapi teks keagamaan Kalika mangalkavya dari abad ke-17 oleh Balram menyebutkan tentang adanya sebuah festival tahunan untuk dewi Kali.[2] Kali Puja pertama kali dipekenalkan di Bengali pada abad ke-18 oleh raja Krishnachandra dari Navadvipa.[1] Kali Puja menjadi populer pada abad ke-19. Ketika itu cucu Krishanachandra, Ishvarchandra, dan para elit Bengali ikut menggelar Kali Puja dalam skala besar.[3] Bersama dengan Durga Puja, kini Kali Puja merupakan festival dewi terbesar di Bangladesh.[4]
