Kematian sel terprogram

Kematian sel terprogram (bahasa Inggris: programmed cell death, disingkat PCD) adalah kematian sel sebagai akibat dari kejadian di dalam sel, seperti apoptosis atau autofagi.[1][2] Peristiwa ini terjadi dalam proses biologis yang biasanya memberikan keuntungan selama siklus hidup organisme. Misalnya, diferensiasi jari tangan dan kaki pada embrio manusia yang sedang berkembang terjadi karena sel-sel di antara jari-jari tangan mengalami apoptosis; hasilnya adalah pemisahan jari. Kematian sel terprogram memainkan fungsi fundamental selama perkembangan jaringan tumbuhan dan hewan.
