Machaerina johnsonii adalah tumbuhan berbunga dalam suku rumput teki-tekian. Spesies ini pertama kali dideskripsikan pada tahun 1980 sebagai Baumea johnsonii oleh Karen Wilson,[3] yang kemudian memindahkannya pada tahun 2015 ke dalam genus Machaerina.[4][5] Epitet spesifiknya diberikan untuk menghormati L.A.S. Johnson.[4][3]
Tumbuhan ini hanya ditemukan di New South Wales, dengan spesimen tipe yang dikumpulkan di Govetts Leap di Blue Mountains.[4][3]
Spesies ini berbunga dari musim semi hingga musim panas dan ditemukan di posisi yang terlindung dan lembap secara permanen di bawah tebing serta di sepanjang anak sungai.[6]
