Melanosuchus adalah sebuah genus kaiman. Kaiman hitam dari Amerika Selatan menjadi satu-satunya spesies hidup pada genus ini, serta menjadi anggota terbesar pada subfamili Caimaninae, serta yang terbesar di keseluruhan famili Alligatoridae.
Taksonomi
Terdapat dua spesies valid pada genus ini, satu hidup dan satunya lagi telah punah.
- Melanosuchus niger (Spix, 1825) – dikenal dengan nama Kaiman hitam, berasal dari Cekungan Amazon di Amerika Selatan.
- †Melanosuchus latrubessei Souza-Filho et al, 2020 – ditemukan di Formasi Solimões, Brasil, dari Miosen Akhir.[1]
