Metalotionein

Metalotionein adalah jenis protein yang mengikat logam yang memiliki ukuran kira-kira 6500 dalton yang juga tersusun atas 30% residu sisteina yang mengandung tiol.[1]Protein ini pertama kali ditemukan pada tahun 1957 oleh Vallee dan Margoshe yang diambil dari protein yang mengikat kadmium dari korteks ginjal kuda.[2] Salah satu fungsi protein ini berhubungan dengan perlindungan dalam menanggulangi toksisitas logam dan stres oksidatif karena memiliki peran dalam regulasi seng dan tembaga.[3]
