Michel Rocard

Michel Rocard (23 Agustus 1930 – 2 Juli 2016) adalah seorang politikus Prancis dan anggota Partai Sosialis (PS). Ia menjabat sebagai Perdana Menteri di bawah Presiden François Mitterrand pada tahun 1988 hingga 1991, di mana pada saat menjabat ia menciptakan revenu minimum d'insertion (RMI), program kesejahteraan sosial minimum bagi rakyat miskin, dan mencapai kesepakatan dalam Persetujuan Matignon mengenai status Kaledonia Baru. Dia juga anggota Parlemen Eropa, dan telah sangat terlibat dalam kebijakan Eropa sampai tahun 2009. Pada tahun 2007, ia bergabung dengan sebuah Komisi yang berada di bawah kewenangan Menteri Pendidikan era Presiden Sarkozy, Xavier Darcos.
Kehidupan awal dan pendidikan
Rocard lahir di Courbevoie, Hauts-de-Seine dari keluarga Protestan, anak dari seorang ahli fisika nuklir Yves Rocard. Ia masuk politik sebagai pemimpin mahasiswa selama belajar di Sciences Po. Dia menjadi Ketua Mahasiswa Sosialis Prancis yang berafiliasi dengan partai sosialis utama Prancis pada waktu itu, yakni Section française de l'Internationale ouvrière (SFIO), dan belajar di École nationale d'administration (ENA), setelah itu ia memilih untuk bekerja di Inspection générale des finances. Sebagai orang yang anti-kolonialis, ia pergi ke Aljazair dan menulis laporan mengenai kamp pengungsi yang secara luas diabaikan akibat dari Perang Kemerdekaan Aljazair (1954-1962). Laporan ini bocor ke surat kabar Le Monde dan France Observateur pada bulan April 1959.
