Nikotinil alkohol (piridilkarbinol) adalah turunan niasin (asam nikotinat) yang digunakan sebagai agen hipolipidemik dan vasodilator. Zat ini menyebabkan kemerahan dan dapat menurunkan tekanan darah.[2]

Asam nikotinat termasuk nikotinil alkohol adalah vasodilator perifer singkat, senyawa ini dibuat agar aksinya lebih lama dan efektif. Zat ini memicu kemerahan pada kulit di kepala dan dada bagian atas saat terkena panas, tetapi tidak memiliki efek besar pada tekanan darah. Zat ini digunakan untuk penyakit pembuluh darah perifer seperti arteriosklerosis obliterans,[3] penyakit Raynaud,[4] tromboangitis obliterans (penyakit Buerger),[5] emboli arteri, radang dingin, atau migrain yang terkait dengan spasme pembuluh darah.

Fischer dan Tebrock menggunakan obat ini pada lebih dari dua ratus pasien selama lebih dari tiga tahun, dan mencapai perbaikan yang efektif, terutama pada gejala yang berhubungan dengan klaudikasio intermiten,[6] penyembuhan tukak, dan lainnya.[7]
