Ophiuros exaltatus adalah spesies tumbuhan berbunga dalam keluarga rumput Poaceae.[2] Tumbuhan ini asli dari daerah tropis yang kering secara musiman di anak benua India, Tiongkok selatan, Asia Tenggara, beberapa pulau di Malesia, Papua Nugini, dan Australia bagian utara.[1] Sebagai rumput tahunan yang tumbuh berumpun dengan tinggi 05 hingga 15 m (200 hingga 590 in), sejak zaman Linnaeus, spesies ini sering mengalami kerancuan taksonomi dengan rumput yang jauh lebih luas penyebarannya dan bersifat invasif, yaitu Rottboellia exaltata L.f. (sekarang Rottboellia cochinchinensis).[2]
