Protea subulifolia, atau yang dikenal dengan nama awl-leaf sugarbush, adalah semak berbunga yang termasuk dalam genus Protea. Tanaman ini merupakan tanaman asli Western Cape dan tersebar dari Stettynskloof hingga Riviersonderendberge, Langeberg, dan dari Bot River hingga dataran Elim.[3] Tanaman ini tumbuh dengan diameter 50 cm dan tinggi 70 cm serta berbunga dari bulan Juli hingga September.
Kebakaran dapat memusnahkan tanaman ini, tetapi benihnya tetap bertahan hidup. Benih-benih tersebut tersimpan dalam cangkang dan disebarkan oleh angin. Tanaman ini bersifat uniseksual. Penyerbukan terjadi melalui bantuan tikus dan mencit. Tanaman ini tumbuh di tanah berpasir hingga tanah liat berat pada ketinggian 60-1.300 m. Daunnya sangat bervariasi, mulai dari bentuk seperti jarum hingga beralur bulat. Braktea involukralnya bertekstur tipis seperti kertas, berwarna cokelat atau merah muda.[3]
Dalam bahasa Afrikaans, tanaman ini dikenal sebagai Naaldblaarsuikerbos.[4]
