Rhytachne adalah genus tumbuhan dalam suku rumput-rumputan (Poaceae).[2][3] Tumbuhan ini utamanya tumbuh di sabana basah di Afrika dan Amerika. Secara lebih spesifik, mereka cenderung menyukai zona transisi antara rawa dan sabana dataran tinggi yang lebih kering. Di Amerika, genus ini dapat ditemukan mulai dari Meksiko selatan dan Kuba ke selatan hingga Argentina utara, sementara di Afrika, genus ini hadir di Afrika Sub-Sahara, termasuk di Madagaskar. Terdapat dua belas spesies yang termasuk dalam genus ini, di mana sembilan di antaranya adalah spesies Afrika, dua spesies Amerika, dan satu spesies, Rhytachne subgibbosa, ditemukan di kedua benua tersebut.[4][5] Genus ini berkerabat dekat dengan Coelorachis.[6][7]
