Sankranti

Sankranti (Sanskerta: संक्रान्ति saṁkrānti) dalam astronomi Hindu adalah perpindahan letak matahari dari satu rasi ke rasi berikutnya.[1] Oleh karena itu, terdapat dua belas sankranti setiap tahunnya.[2] Masing-masing sankranti menandai bulan baru dalam penanggalan waktu sideris yang masih dipraktikkan di Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat dan Nepal. Di sisi lain, dalam waktu sideris kalender Bengal dan Assam, sankrati dipahami sebagai akhir suatu bulan dengan hari setelahnya dianggap sebagai bulan baru.
