The Rising Sun

The Rising Sun: The Decline and Fall of the Japanese Empire, 1936–1945, ditulis oleh John Toland, diterbitkan oleh Random House tahun 1970[1] dan memenangkan Hadiah Pulitzer untuk Non-Fiksi Umum tahun 1971.[2] Buku ini diterbitkan kembali oleh Random tahun 2003.[3]

Sebuah kronik tentang kebangkitan dan kejatuhan Kekaisaran Jepang pada Perang Dunia II, mulai invasi Manchuria dan Tiongkok hingga bom atom Hiroshima dan Nagasaki dari sudut pandang Jepang. Toland sendiri menyebut bukuu ini sebagai "saga faktual tentang orang-orang yang terperangkap dalam banjir perang terkacau sepanjang sejarah manusia, diceritakan kembali seperti aslinya-penuh karut marut, dipuja-puja, hina, membuat frustrasi, penuh paradoks."[3]
