Tuanaki

Tuanaki atau Tuanahe adalah nama sekelompok pulau yang bersifat anekdot, yang sempat menjadi bagian dari Kepulauan Cook. Pulau tersebut terletak di selatan Rarotonga[1] dan membutuhkan dua hari pelayaran dari Mangaia.[2]

Pada 1916, Polynesian Society of Honolulu mencetak ulang sebuah catatan dari seorang pelaut yang berkunjung kesana pada 1842, yang menjelani enam hari bersama dengan penduduk asli. Namun, catatan tersebut ditambahkan bahwa pada dua tahun berikutnya pada 1844, sekelompok misionaris Inggris tak menemukan pulau tersebut.[3] Beberapa penduduk Tuanaki yang telah berimigrasi ke Rarotonga diduga menyelamatkan diri.

Minat untuk memublikasikan kembali kepulauan tersebut kembali muncul pada tahun 1916, dan penjelajah Sir Ernest Shackleton, saat merencanakan Penjelajahan Shackleton-Rowett tahun 1921–1922, menyatakan bahwa salah satu tujuannya adalah menemukan kembali Tuanaki. Penjelajah tersebut menjemput ajal di perairan Atlantik sebelum ia dapat melakukan pencarian serius terhadap kepulauan tersebut.[4]

Pada 1952, Bebatuan Haymet diperkirakan merupakan sisa dari Tuanaki.[5] However, the existence of the Haymet Rocks at some point is unconfirmed as well.
