Tympanoctomys adalah sebuah genus hewan pengerat dalam famili Octodontidae. Terdapat tiga spesies sintas dalam genus ini: T. barrerae,[2] T. kirchnerorum[3] dan T. loschalchalerosorum.[4] T. loschalchalerosorum sebelumnya dianggap monotipik dalam genus Salinoctomys, namun telah ditunjukkan oleh analisis genetik terletak di dalam variasi T. barrerae.[4]

Semua spesiesnya endemik ke Argentina barat, tempat genus ini memiliki persebaran terfragmentasi. Habitat alaminya adalah belukar gurun, padang pasir dan dataran garam, tempat mereka memakan tumbuhan halofit. Mereka adalah hewan nokturnal dan soliter yang membangun gundukan-gundukan besar dengan galian-galian kompleks.[3]
