Vernonanthura adalah genus tumbuhan Neotropis dalam tribus Vernonieae[2] dalam famili Asteraceae.[1][3]

Nama genus Vernonanthura diambil untuk menghormati William Vernon (1666/67 - sekitar 1711), seorang kolektor tanaman asal Inggris, briolog, dan entomolog dari Universitas Cambridge, yang melakukan koleksi di Maryland, AS pada tahun 1698. Nama ini juga menggabungkan akhiran kompleks yang berasal dari 'anthera' (anther) dan 'oura' (ekor), yang merujuk pada pangkal antera tanaman ini yang sering kali berekor.[4][5]
