At the time of the National Census of 2006, the population was 16,988 in 4,813 households, when it was in Eshtehard District of Karaj County, Tehran province.[8]
In June 2012, Eshtehard District was separated from Karaj County in the establishment of Eshtehard County, which was divided into two districts of two rural districts each, with Eshtehard as its capital and only city at the time.[3]
The 2016 census recorded the population at 29,993 inhabitants in 9,357 households.[2]
