Биография

Родился 3 апреля 1952 в Порт-Толботе.

В 1974 году получил бакалавра гуманитарных наук по истории с отличием в Кембриджском университете (Клэр-колледж) по кафедре англосаксонских, северных и кельтских исследований^[англ.] со специализацией по истории, англосаксонским, скандинавским и кельтским исследованиям.^[1]

В 1977—1980 годы — научный сотрудник сэра Леона Радзиновича по Оксфордско-Кембриджскому проекту по изучению истории английского уголовного права 1790-1914.^[1]

В 1978 году получил магистра гуманитарных наук по истории и доктора философии по истории (научный руководитель — сэр Джон Гарольд Пламб^[англ.]) в Кембриджском университете.^[1]

В 1979 году победил в телеигре Mastermind^[англ.].^[1]
