Islam di Samudera Hindia dibentuk oleh pedagang laut Muslim jauh sebelum ditemukannya Seychelles oleh orang Eropa. Namun, tidak seperti di negara-negara pulau lainnya termasuk Comoros dan Maladewa, tidak ada penduduk tetap di Seychelles sampai pemukiman Prancis pada tahun 1770. Saat ini, jumlah penduduk Muslim dari pulau-pulau dilaporkan menjadi hanya 1,6%, kira-kira 1575 orang. Banyak pulau tetangga di selatan Samudra Hindia, termasuk Comoros, Maladewa dan Zanzibar, memiliki pengaruh Islam jauh lebih besar karena kolonisasi mereka dengan umat Islam, sebelum penjajahan Eropa. Mauritius juga memiliki populasi Muslim yang jauh lebih tinggi karena adanya impor tenaga kerja dari British India pada skala yang belum pernah di Seychelles. Pemerintah Seychelles memungkinkan 15 menit penyiaran agama setiap hari Jumat untuk komunitas Muslim.
