Pseudophoenix adalah genus palem yang berasal dari wilayah Karibia yang lebih luas. Tiga dari empat spesiesnya endemik di Hispaniola, sementara yang keempat, P. sargentii, tersebar luas di bagian utara Karibia (Antillen Besar, Kepulauan Windward, Bahama), Florida, dan Semenanjung Yucatán (Belize dan tenggara Meksiko).[1][2][3][4][5]
Pohon dalam genus ini adalah palem berukuran sedang hingga besar dengan batang tunggal yang tidak berkelompok. Mereka tidak memiliki duri dan memiliki daun majemuk menyirip. Bunganya berwarna hijau dan biseksual; buah yang matang berwarna merah.[6]
