Menurut Buddhavamsa dari kitab Pali, Buddha Padumuttara adalah Buddha ketiga belas dari dua puluh tujuh Buddha yang mendahulu Buddha Gautama.
Dalam Buddhavamsa, ia dikisahkan sebagai berikut:
Seratus ribu aeon lalu, Buddha Padumuttara, yang mengetahui segalanya dan melayakkan semua sumbangan, lahir sendiri dalam aeon tersebut.[1]
