Kitab Samantapāsādikā mengacu pada kumpulan kitab komentar Pali untuk Vinayapiṭaka milik Theravāda.[1] Kitab-kitab ini adalah terjemahan kitab komentar Sinhala ke dalam bahasa Pali oleh Buddhaghosa pada abad ke-5. Banyak syair yang digunakan dalam kitab Samantapāsādikā berasal dari Dīpavaṁsa (catatan sejarah tradisional Sri Lanka) yang lebih tua (diperkirakan abad ke-3 - ke-4 Masehi).[2] Samantapāsādikā terdiri dari dua kata, samanta dan pāsādikā. Di sini, samanta berarti 'semua' atau 'keseluruhan', dan pāsādikā berarti 'indah' atau 'menyenangkan'.[3][4]
